Mother's Day Crafts For Kids - A Miniature Pot Of Flowers For Mom As A Mother's Day Craft

This mother's day craft for kids is suitable for small children. Make a gift for mom for mother's day. The modeling clay can be bought at any crafts store and it dries very easily within a few hours. It is also best to buy small artificial flowers to use as flowers or, if you can find them, dried flowers and dry grass seeds will be even better. Of course, if the kids are a little older they can make flowers from buttons, florist wire and florist tape.*

Because the pots are small, this is a very good craft for developing the small motor muscle skills in toddlers.

Childrens Books

This is what you need for your mother's day craft:

Mother's Day Crafts For Kids - A Miniature Pot Of Flowers For Mom As A Mother's Day Craft

Modeling clay A pencil A thin stick to use for decorating the pot The flowers you want to use
Method for this mother's day craft for kids:

Roll your modeling clay into a ball of the size you want your pot to be. (Not too big, as you are only going to make a hole for the flowers with your pencil.) Make a hole in the pot by pressing the back of the pencil into the ball. Shape your ball to form a pot with a flat bottom so that your pot can stand on it. Decorate the pot by drawing patterns on it with a thin stick or a matchstick. Arrange the flowers in the pot and then let it stand in a hot place to harden. Now you have a beautiful flower pot as a gift for mom on mother's day.
*To make "button flowers:"

Use a very small button and push florist wire through one of the holes from the bottom and then back from the top to the bottom through another hole. Twist the two ends of the wire tightly around each other and cover it neatly with florist tape. Now you have a "button flower." Make as many flowers ad you need.

Older children can make bigger pots and make the hole for the flowers with a thicker stick. You cannot make them too big though or they will take too long to harden and they will probably crack.

Worms in Children - How to Treat Them and Avoid Them

Thread worms are thriving everyday in the bottoms of little children and affecting their daily activities and causing sleepless nights for many families. It's not a nice experience but easily identified and treated. I am frequently finding worms a problem for our little pre-school aged non-sleepers and mum and dad are horrified. Worms are spread very easily in the community across all social backgrounds and generations. They are spread most commonly in pre-schoolers' because in my experience the only things toddlers share are germs (and love) and this age group are not always efficient at hand washing, particularly before eating.

How do we identify a child with worms?

Childrens Books

*An infected child has an itchy bottom!! They will naturally be very irritable during the day, frustrated, uncooperative, fidgety, not be able to sit still, cannot concentrate, argumentative and angry. Often the most common reason for children trying to climb out of the cot is that they have worms.

Worms in Children - How to Treat Them and Avoid Them

*You might suspect someone performed a personality transplant on your little angel!

*They want to scratch their bottom and will commonly be seen taking their clothes or nappy off.

*They will walk strangely like they are trying to keep a coin safely between their buttocks and having trouble (imagine).

*They will frequently urinate and or bed wet at night.

*They will not be able to go to sleep and not be able to explain why to you, but will be crying and uncomfortable, not naughty.

What to look for

*If you suspect worms, look for a pinky/red rash about 2cm wide completely around the outside of the genital area

*If you wish to look for worms, keep the room dark, ask for your partners help, comfort the child and 'spring' a torch light onto the exposed bottom. The worms come out at night to lay eggs. This process creates the uncomfortableness and irritability. So in the night time only you will see 1.5cm long wriggling pieces of white sewing cotton, moving fast away from the light, around the anal passage. In girls the worms can crawl into the vagina and be even more irritable.

How to get rid of them

*Firstly, collect as many worms as you can see immediately and dispose of them. Your child will feel calmer after the worms have disappeared from the skin.

*If you have a daughter and you suspect they are in the vaginal area, you can very gently slightly spread open the outer labia (flaps of skin) and if you see any worms, gently roll them onto a cotton bud (q tip). Tissues and cotton balls are too large and you won't be able to see what you are doing. (personal experience) This will provide immediate relief from the irritation of the worms trying to lay eggs in this sensitive area

*Apply a thick layer of Vaseline to the anal area to provide temporary relief to the skin and catch any worms that come out again in the night.

*Wash in hot water/use the dryer/hot sun on all linen, towels and clothing worn by the child. Repeat for the whole family. The worms can live outside the body long enough to infect everyone.

*There are a variety of medications to offer your family. There are one dose liquids, orange chewable tablets and chocolate squares, please do the whole family the day you find the worms and then again 7 days later in case of re-infestation See your pharmacist for the appropriate dose and the minimum age.

*It's a good idea to keep the medication in your medicine cupboard (personal experience), it will be late at night that you discover them, the shops will be closed and no-one can sleep if anyone else has worms crawling out of their bottom!

*Please inform your pre-school/daycare centre if your child has them (even anonymously if embarrassed) so that other families can be on the look out for them and the centre's can be more proactive with hygiene and symptoms in other children. Always think about whether you would appreciate the warning if another child had worms and played with your child.

How do children get worms?

*Through their mouth.

*The worms come out at night to lay their eggs in the tissue around the anal passage, this causes the skin irritation.

*The child scratches their bottom because it's itchy.

*The eggs get under the finger nails and are spread onto everything the child touches: toys, toilets, taps, towels, pencils, chairs, etc.

*The next child/person touches the same objects and then....doesn't wash their hands before eating/ touching the face and they swallow them.

Tip The simplest form of infection control used in hospitals everyday that prevents doctors and nurses from catching all of the bugs in the hospitals is HAND WASHING. Make it a family routine that no-one eats before they have washed and thoroughly dried their hands. Encourage this at pre-school and day care as well. If we start young enough the children will think it as normal as cleaning their teeth before bed or kissing you good bye. It is up to us as parents to start and lead by example with these sensible habits.

Football - Coloring Pages Kids Should Have Five Facts

Football coloring Kid, you love a football coloring book but don't know the game of pigskin?

Coloring football Kid, would you believe five facts about football will put you in the know?
Let's get started...

Childrens Books

Football History Football Fundamentals Organized Football Structure Players' Skills Levels Football Season
1. Football History

Football - Coloring Pages Kids Should Have Five Facts

American football comes from rugby football. The first major football game was won by Rutgers University (score - 6) against Princeton University (score - 4). Their war was in 1869 -- four years after the Civil War.

Coloring football boy, the main idea of football is still the same. Football fans still yell, "Run that football!", "Throw it!", "Kick it!", and "Score man, score!"

2. Football Fundamentals

Coloring kid, you must get the ball into your opponent's end zone.
Get yourself an egg-shaped, air-filled leather ball to throw, catch or kick.
Follow the rules and regulations. No running "any-which-a-way" with the football, man!

Only two teams can square off. Your team and the other guy's team must have eleven players on the field at one time. Smaller football leagues use fewer than eleven guys.

The teams take turns playing offensive (trash talking is allowed), then playing defensive (cry baby guys are not allowed).

The offensive team possesses the ball until they score, or fail to gain 10 yards in four tries, or loses the ball to the defensive team.

The defensive team tries to stop the offense from gaining yardage or scoring. The defense tries to steal the ball, too.

3. Organized Football Structure

Do you love knocking people down, kid? Is screaming in a big guy's face your dream
come true? Is slamming a little guy into planet Earth your idea of fun?
Well, Coloring football kid, tackle football is for you...

NO! Football coloring Kid, no scratching or spitting! "Eye-gouging and kicking?" NO! "Choke holds and pistol whipping?!" NO! Don't get greedy, kid...

Here is a little lowdown info to help understand organized football structure:

Teams may change their players as long as 11 guys are on the field.
Scrimmage is the action once the ball is snapped (quickly given) to the Quarterback by his Center until the ball is dead.
Line of Scrimmage is an invisible field line where teams face each other. Now get this...

Both teams can have three specialized teams where players have one or more roles.

Here are a few roles...

I. The Specialized Offense Team must score or gain yardage to win. The Quarterback leader gets the ball from his Center man -- his second brain. The QB throws the ball to a Receiver, or hands it to a Running Back or runs the ball himself (gutsy!). The Offense Line is five Mack trucks. They power protect the Passer, block, and leave tread marks on defense players' backs. Running Backs have roles in running the ball, catching, blocking plus wrecking havoc on yardage. Wide Receivers catch zooming balls from the Quarterback. These guys have "superhero" speed plus they block, too. Tight Ends have two roles. They can perform as Wide Receivers or as Offensive Linemen who protect Quarterbacks and block for Runners. II. The Specialized Defense Team must stop opponents from scoring or gaining yardage. The Defensive Line has 3 to 6 "massive giants" blocking the sun and creating darkness and pain along the line of scrimmage. Linemen ("monster trucks") roll over running backs. They crash test "sack" the quarterback before he passes or hands off the ball. Linebackers cause nightmares. They lurk behind the Defensive Linemen plus rush the quarterback or cover receivers. Defensive Backs with superhero speed cover receivers and stop zooming passes plus rush quarterbacks! III. The Specialized Special Team must score extra points. Got a funky leg and foot, kid? Become a punter or place kicker to get those game saving extra points. Long snappers need pinpoint skills, too.
4. Players' Skills Levels

Professional level There are 32 US teams for want to be professional players. American football leagues are found in 50 countries! Maybe you can sign with the German Football League (GFL) or the Japanese X-League. Sports agents and lawyers help you make big money deals. Football coloring kid, if you can't cut the professionals levels go to the semi-professional leagues. Or become a sports agent or lawyer! Don't play the fool, kid, study hard at the... College level Your pro football training starts in college. Nearly every college and university has a football team and stadium. You like crowds, football coloring kid? Go to a college game. If you get lost hold your tears, boy. Wait by the security station. After the last 60,000 to 100,000 fans leave your people can spot you! High School level More high school boys play football than college guys play football. High school leads to collegiate, then to professional level football careers, then to high paying TV commercials careers. The high school sophomore year is when most players decide about a football career. Some professionals learned to play football in... Youth and Pee Wee level Do 5 to 14 year old players have fans besides mom and dad? "Yes."
5. The Football Season

Can organized teams throw pigskin any ole time? No? That is right.

Football season starts in August. Football runs you crazy until January pro playoffs High school games are played on Fridays. College games are played on Thursday and Saturday. Professionals play on Sunday and Monday. We will...

Wrap it up, football coloring Kid...

Do you know about players' numbers? 1-19 for Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers, Punters plus Kickers 20 - 49: Running Backs plus Defensive Backs 50 - 59: Centers plus Linebackers 60 - 79: Defensive Linemen and Offensive Linemen 80 - 89: Wide Receivers plus Tight Ends 90 - 99: Defensive Linemen plus Linebackers

Now, you know the game of football, coloring Kid. You learned basic: football history, football fundamentals, organized football structure, players' skills levels, and the football season...

So get yourself into a game with other football coloring pages kids.

Play hard. Laugh Loud.

What Does the Bible Say About Being a Father?

Father's Day is on Sunday, June 15, 2008. The Wikipedia definition of Father's Day is a "secular celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting, and to honor and commemorate father's and forefathers." Father's Day became a national holiday in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as the day. Mrs. John Dodd of Washington first proposed the idea in 1909 when she wanted to honor her father, William Smart. Her mother died in childbirth when their sixth child was born. He was left to raise his children by himself and after Mrs. Dodd became an adult she realized the selflessness her father had shown as a single parent. Father's Day has become a day to not only honor our fathers, but all men who act as a father figure.

What does the Bible say about being a father? Proverbs 22:6-11 reads, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." To train, indicates the first instruction that a parent gives to a child; which is his early education. Ephesians 6:4 is a summary of instruction to parents, represented by the father, in a negative and positive way. "And now a word to you fathers, don't make your children angry by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction approved by the Lord." This is what the Bible says about a fathers responsibility in raising their children. The negative side of this verse indicates that a father is not to foster the bad passions of their children by severity, injustice, partiality, or unreasonable exercise of authority. Bad conduct towards a child will only serve to nurture evil in their heart. The positive side is to educate them, bring them up and develop their conduct in all of life by the instruction and admonition of the Lord.

Childrens Books

This is the training of the child or the whole process of educating and discipline. The word "provoke" means to irritate or rub the wrong way. This is done by the wrong spirit and by wrong methods, for example, unreasonableness, sternness, cruel demands and unnecessary restrictions. These things would cause bad reactions, make him less affectionate and make him feel he can't please his parents. A wise parent wants to make obedience desirable through love and gentleness. Christian discipline is needed to prevent children from growing up without reverence for God, respect for their parents authority, knowledge of Christian standards and self-control. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All scripture is given of God and is profitable for teaching, reproving, correcting and instruction in righteousness; that the man (or woman) of God may be completely equipped for all good works." This is what the Bible says about being a father.

Robots For Kids

World Book Dictionary defines robot as "a machine made in imitation of a human being; a mechanical device that does routine work in response to commands." I met my first robot in 1979 at the Texas Instruments plant in Austin, where it delivered mail. Despite early promises to the contrary, robots today are found not in the home, but primarily in factories. And although there are robots made out of Legos, there is no robot designed to pick Legos up from the floor. I, however, remain hopeful. Find out more at the following websites.

Design Your Own Robot

Childrens Books

"Robots come in all shapes and sizes. But what does it take to design one?" You are about to learn. First, you'll be assigned a mission for your robot. Will it be to search a sunken ship for gold? Or to explore the surface of Mars? Design your robot by choosing elements for six basic functions: sensing, movement, manipulation, energy, intelligence and looks. When finished, you'll view your robot and your design will be critiqued. This totally awesome exercise requires the free Shockwave plug-in. Get it now.

Robots For Kids

Get a Grip on Robotics

This exhibit explores the jointed-arm robot which "looks similar to a certain part of your body." Each direction a joint can move gives the robot one degree of freedom. So, a robot arm with three degrees of freedom can move in three ways: up/down, left/right, and forward/backward. Although some robots have six, eight or even twelve degrees of freedom, six is enough for most basic tasks, and therefore most working robot arms have six degrees of freedom. The human arm, however, has seven. Find out which movement you have that most robotic arms do not.

Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" Book Review

Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" is an incredible book that is well known for its condemnation of the unsanitary conditions of meat packing plants, but many people today don't know that this book had a much wider, immense scope, and ambition. He also dealt with issues of racism, immigration, poverty, capitalism run rampant, and social injustice.

It's not out of line to say that Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" is arguably one of the best American books of the 20th century. This book is written like fiction while displaying the actual real conditions of America for immigrant Jurgis Rudkus, who comes looking for the American Dream in the early 20th century and finds nothing but pain, heartache, and terrible conditions for everyone in oppressive poverty.

Childrens Books

Upton Sinclair shows that even as the immigrants struggle to survive, that they come to realize that it's a hopeless battle. They work in the packinghouses which take advantage of their slave-like labor while bringing poverty, disease, death, injury, injustice, rape, jail and hopelessness. With no other options and a thousand men clamoring at the gate for their job, they are held in their position with no chance at improvement or escape.

Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" Book Review

Upton Sinclair uses the story of Jurgis to show the first hand experiences of a system where capitalism runs amuck without any checks or balances. In the drive for even a half-penny extra of profit, spoiled meat is bribed past inspectors, men are crushed and killed, waste is driven wholesale into public drinking water and people are made sick by the tens of thousands so a few very rich guys at the top can get a little richer.

This is an amazing book, though its main weaknesses are the same that are brought up with the majority of Upton Sinclair novels. One is that the opening is slow. It takes a long time in the early chapters to introduce all the characters, and the other is that the ending reads like propaganda. Upton Sinclair believed that all literature was propaganda, so this isn't surprising.

These are minor weaknesses to an overall amazing book that was one of the most influential in American history. Many believe that only Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin" had more of an influence on the United States than Upton Sinclair.

"The Jungle" is the perfect example of a lost art: an amazing fictional story illustrating a point far more greatly than non-fiction could hope to. Most fiction nowadays trying to do the same comes across as preachy, and doesn't spend enough time on the story. Upton Sinclair's novel is amazing, and should continue to be read today as a reminder of what literature can do to help society, and to not forget about how bad things used to be.

Teaching Kids About the Fruit of the Spirit - Devotional For Children

"But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control;" Galatians 5: 22

Because we live close to the Rocky Mountain foothills and the altitude is so high in Calgary, we have to adapt our gardening habits. Backyard green houses are very common or garden frames. I can get a head start on my gardening if I start my plants in the house in early spring or buy young plants at the end of May.

Childrens Books

This last March I was very impatient. I wanted spring to come and decided to help it along by starting my plants, in the house, way too early. By the end of April the dahlias were already two feet tall and my oriental lilies were already blooming on my kitchen table. When I finally set my dahlias out they blossomed beautifully all summer and even now are displaying huge saucer size colorful blooms. But my oriental lilies died off within a week leaving the green stems to remind me of my impatience.

Teaching Kids About the Fruit of the Spirit - Devotional For Children

One spring I was fascinated by the scarlet flowered beans that grow to the top of the fence. I started some on my window sill. They sprouted so quickly and their tendrils curled all over my chairs and TV trays in the dining room window. By May the snow was gone and the sun was shining brightly. When I got up in the morning it was at least 10 degrees centigrade. The bean tendrils were already three feet long and I knew I was trying my husband's patience with my inside garden.

Then and there I decided I too had had enough of these plants invading on my dinner plate so next morning out they went. I knew better. I know you're supposed to harden your plants off before you plant them outdoors but it's such a tedious procedure. First you set the plant out on the patio in the sun for a very short time and then take it in. The next day you put it out longer and every day a little longer until it gets used to the outdoor coolness and atmosphere. Then you can finally plant it. Even then you may have to cover it on cool nights and cooler days. I had lots of writing to do and decided to just plant them against the fence. For a couple of days I had beautiful green bean plants running up my poles but slowly most of them just shriveled up and slowly died.

This hard, time consuming work of tending vegetables and flowers makes me think of the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We try different tactics to sprout and grow them ourselves our lives. We even have some success.

Just like my plants that did so well in my warm sunny kitchen we can display symptoms of the fruit of the Holy Spirit as long as we practice them in a controlled environment. It's easy to show love to others and be patient with people as long as everything is peaceful and we are in control. But then things start going wrong. We get super busy and run out of time. We get frustrated and go back to our old habits of blaming others for my problems.

Sometimes we try so hard and it seems no matter how many different tactics we try, no fruit appears. That reminds me of the Lily of the Valley roots I purchased and not one of them grew. Even my young Peony plant was stunted in its growth. This time I knew I wasn't too blame for failure. I had to look further and realized I had bought these roots on sale at a hardware store. They just weren't healthy roots. I promised my self to buy all of my roots and bulbs at the renowned garden centre next year.

At times we too forget the source of the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We even attempt to grow these fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control relying on our own strength. Or just like my young tender plants that I set out too early and a touch of frost kills them; outside influences overcome our good inclinations.

Only the Holy Spirit can grow the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We need to be close to God, spending time with Him in prayer and reading His Word and obeying Him as He leads us. It's only yielding to Him that brings godly fruit into our lives.

Bible Truths to Share with Your Kids:

In the Bible we read about fruits of the Holy Spirit that God wants to grow in our lives. These fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Probably most kids, even you, would like to have these characteristics. We all try to live these values. But it's hard to always love, or be good or self-controlled when things aren't going our way or we are tired or some one is giving us a hard time.

Well, I have news for you. God doesn't even want you to try to be these things all by yourself in your own strength. He wants to grow these characteristics in you. He does that when you spend time with Him.

Just like you are influenced by other kids when you spend time with them and become kind of like them, you are influenced by God when you spend time with Him and become like Him.

You can spend time with God by reading the Bible and listening to what He wants to say to you. You also spend time with Him when you pray to Him or when you go to a Bible Study or Prayer time at church with your friends. The more time you spend with God the more fruit the Holy Spirit produces in your life if you let Him.

Jesus says He is like a vine to us and we are like the branches of that vine. The branches get life from the vine so we bear fruit that the vine bears. We are blessed to be chosen by the God of the universe to be in such a close relationship with Him.

6 Brain Exercises For Children

As children are growing up they are developing thinking, as well as behavioral, patterns. Using these 6 brain exercises for children is one way to help them develop these skills for better functioning and mental abilities for life.

Word Searches/Crosswords

Childrens Books

They make many books for kids that contain word searches and crosswords. These are great activities for children to exercise their brains by using the focus and thinking that they require. Crossword puzzles are also a great family activity, where one person can read off the clue and tell how many letters are involved and everyone else can guess.
6 Brain Exercises For Children
Memory Exercises
Working with memory exercises can be one of the easiest brain exercises for children, since it can be done in the car while driving or almost anywhere else. Starting when they are young we naturally do these exercises by teaching them how to spell their names, and what their phone numbers and addresses are. We can expand on this by having them work on remembering poems, songs, and the names from family trees.
Memorizing helps children use their brain to focus and retain the information. It also is a very useful skill since a lot of education is based on memorizing, such as learning the number facts for math or learning a list of spelling words.
Obstacle Courses For The Brain
We all have heard of obstacle courses that require physical exercises, but we can also set up ones that include brain exercises for children. An obstacle course for the brain can combine both physical and brain exercises, or focus exclusively on the latter. You can make stations along a physical obstacle course where they can only proceed to the next station after they complete a mental task, such as a short crossword puzzle or word problem. You can also set is up where they have stations throughout the house where they have to complete a series of mental tasks all lined up along the floor or a table.
Write Or Draw Left-Handed (Or Right-Handed)
A great way to exercise the brain is to use the non-dominant hand for writing or drawing. This can be fun to see who can tell what was written or drawn afterwards. Another option is to draw a picture where one-half is done with the dominant hand and then afterwards it is copied onto the other half by the non-dominant hand. These are brain exercises for children that encourage both sides of their brain to work together.
While brain exercises for children can be simple and fun the payoffs can be huge. By using these brain exercises the children are learning to exercise an important part of the body.

The Elf on a Shelf - 10 Sets of Mischievous Ideas For Adding Magic to Your Holiday Season

The Elf on the Shelf Christmas and Elf Magic traditions are sweeping the nation -- for good reason. They offer a delightful way to build excitement for the holidays, and keep children on their best behavior. Here is how they work.

The "official" Elf on the Shelf, Elf Magic Elf or a another elf, arrives at your home early in the Christmas season to spend the holidays with your family.

Childrens Books

Each night the Elf on a Shelf returns to the North Pole, while your children are sleeping, to report to Santa regarding their behavior.

The Elf on a Shelf - 10 Sets of Mischievous Ideas For Adding Magic to Your Holiday Season

While the Elf on the Shelf Elves have a more staid reputation, the Elf Magic Elves are a mischievous bunch, and have a tendency to make a mess or pull a crazy stunt while everyone is asleep. Your kids will love to wake up each morning and see what trouble the Elf got into the night before.

Here are ten ideas found around the internet and from local families to inspire your elf:

Elves Love to Do What Your Kids Love To Do

Elves adapt quickly to a household, and many mornings are found busy with the favorite activities of the kids who live there. Reading favorite books, playing games (including the Wii or Nintendo DS), having a tea party with best-loved dolls, and riding skateboards are all favorite Elf past times.

Elves Are Into Computers and Social Media

Elves in homes with teens have been known to have email, Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep an online eye on the kids and send funny emails, status updates and tweets. Many elves also seem to surf the internet late at night, finding fun new sites for the kids to enjoy.

Elves Love to be in Pictures

Apparently, Elves are very good at self portraits. Many families have found their digital cameras full of pictures of their Elves in all kinds of crazy poses.

Elves Often Have A Driver's License

If an Elf cannot be found in the morning, the car is the first place to look. Elves are often found in the driver's seat, sitting on a stack of pillows or books. The car may be parked backwards or in a crazy position, and in some cases even down the street or in a neighbor's driveway. Typically, Christmas music is blaring through the speakers and the gas tank is mysteriously closer to empty than before.

Elves Write in Journals

Elves and children often learn more about each other and build bonds by writing letters back and forth. Some Elves arrive with a festively decorated journal to keep all the correspondence in one place. It has been rumored that some Elves only write backwards, so children must hold the note up to the mirror to read it. A few are conversant in Pig Latin or other codes that older kids must decipher.

Elves Tell Potty Jokes, Too

Bathroom humor spans all languages and species. Elves love to turn the toilet water green (with food coloring), decorate Christmas trees in underwear, toilet paper kids rooms or whole houses, and write on bathroom mirrors with mom's lipstick.

Elves Spell Their Names - Everywhere!

Each Elf has a name. Some are named by the children they watch. Others arrive with a note introducing the Elf. Either way, all Elves seem to love to leave their signature as often as possible. Maybe the Elf's name is written in Cheerios, flour, or chocolate syrup on the counter. Other times in toothpaste on the bathroom mirror. Best of all, in food coloring on freshly fallen snow.

Elves Love Things That Remind Them of Home

Cotton ball snowball fights are a favorite past time of elves. Also, Elves often make elf sized snow angels. If real snow is not available, then Insta-Snow or flour make good substitutes. A favorite game for Elves is Candy Lane. If the house does not already have a copy, Elves have been known to bring one from the North Pole as an early Christmas gift.

Elves Do Not Always Come Alone

What could be better than an Elf on the Shelf? Several Elves, of course. That means the mischief can multiply and children awake to elaborate scenes of Elf mayhem. Maybe a poker game or baseball or football match or a play with Elves in costume (borrowed from other dolls).

Elves Play With Their Neighbor Elves

So many families have their own Elf on a Shelf during the holidays that Elves join with neighbor Elves to increase the fun. Many neighbor elves have been waiting together at the bus stop for their children to arrive. Other Elves host a Christmas party for neighborhood kids.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless for your elf tradition. Happy Holidays!

Components of Hebrew - Learning Hebrew

Learning Hebrew is an interesting thing to do. Apart from being an exotic and ancient language, it is also one of the most amazing languages to learn. These days, learning Hebrew is not difficult. You just need to have the desire and give it some time and energy, and you can easily achieve many levels in the Hebrew course. Being an older language, there are traditional and modern versions of the alphabet and letters. Some of alphabet is no longer in use in the sense that they are not used as widely in colloquial terms; except for when writing poetry or a religious text. However, you still need to know about the older and other ancient and outdated alphabet because it can come in handy when reading the bible or any other ancient text.

So it does not matter where you decide to take Hebrew lessons, the basic components of the language remains the same. Let us now understand in detail some of the basic components, alphabet and letters of a Hebrew lesson.

Hebrew Alphabet and Letters

Components of Hebrew - Learning Hebrew

The Hebrew alphabet has in all twenty two letters. The Hebrew alphabet is also known as abjad, which means they only consist of consonants. Five of the letters use diverse forms at the end of each word. Another interesting thing about the Hebrew alphabet is that it has only one case. This essentially means that there is no distinctive capital or any distinctive lowercase letters.

Way of Writing

In a very traditional and basic form, the Hebrew alphabet is written from the right to the left. Just like Urdu and other Persian languages, Hebrew too is written and read in a different manner. Also, it is written horizontally, just like any other normal text.

Hebrew Vowels

Vowels in the Hebrew language are represented by the weak consonants. Also, there is a system of vowel points. These are used to point out the vowels or diacritics or in traditional terms, the niqqud. The long vowels are generally indicated by the specific letters like alef, vav, and yod. The short vowels are more often than not never marked, except when used in the Bible, some poetry and in books for children and books for distance learners.

Other Interesting Hebrew words and Usage

Some letters, for example kaf, mem, nun, fe and tzadi, are found to have a concluding form when they are used, especially at the closing stages of a word. There is deeper meaning in understanding these details because there really are many ways of writing a word or a sentence in Hebrew.

Hebrew Numbers

There is no break up of numerals in the Hebrew language. Also, standard western numerals like 1, 2, 3, and so on are used.

Thus, if one really wants to learn Hebrew then let me say that learning Hebrew is interesting. Its words and alphabet and letters are unique and give the student a chance to delve into the various nuances of the language.

Appraise Your Spiderman Comic Book Collection

Even if you have no intention of selling your favorite Spiderman comic book collection, it may be nice to know the value of it, if for nothing more than conversational purposes. For one thing, it's just very cool to even have a Spiderman comic book collection, since most people's collections tend to be a bit more random.

But someone who went through the trouble to keep up with an entire series, who has collected the actual set, something like a Batman or a Spiderman comic book collection, has something special. This is especially true considering how many times some of the storylines have split apart or gone off into alternate universes.

Childrens Books

The best way to go about appraising the value of your Spiderman comic book collection, or of course, is to start looking at price guides. This is true whether it is a small collection or whether it is quite comprehensive.

Appraise Your Spiderman Comic Book Collection

But don't look at just one. There are several out there, but what you should do is reference at least three. The Official Overstreet Cartoon Book Price Guide is a popular one, but if you can find a Marvel cartoon book price guide, and a Spiderman comic book price guide, you can get a better idea of the market by comparing your results.

One great thing about The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is the fact that it is considered by some collectors to be the price guide bible for all kinds of cartoon book collectors. Another great thing is its comprehensive nature.

For instance, you can compare the price of your Spiderman comic book collection to that of other types of collections. Gemstone boasts -well-researched pricing- and -in-depth historical information,- not to mention tips on grading your books.

Markets do strange things sometimes, and that's another reason to have many different sources, like a Spiderman cartoon book cost guide and a Marvel cartoon book price guide. For instance, within the Marvel universe, a Spiderman book collection may fluctuate in value compared to other Marvel comics.

In the meantime, Marvel cartoon books may fluctuate in value compared to Image or DC Comics. So it helps to compare what the markets say about both that specific universe and that specific superhero.

If you want to sell your Spiderman cartoon book collection, the deciding factor is the price you set on it. You can consult various sources, such as the Marvel cartoon book price guide or the Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.

In the end, though, your personal situation can either make the price higher or lower. If you are hesitant about selling it, make the price higher to make it worth selling. If you need money quickly, give it a price tag that will make it sell faster.

Either way, you have the final word on the price regardless of what your resources suggest for your Spiderman cartoon book collection.

Impact Of Internet On Children's Attitude And Behaviour

INTRODUCTION

We live in information age, where knowledge is power. Internet has come to stay and it is happening. Life styles are changing. Newspapers are available on the web. Cinema tickets can be booked on Internet by logging on to the relevant sites. Entertainment concepts are changing. One can watch movies, listen to songs just by connecting to these sites sitting at home. There are sites on every subject in the world.

Childrens Books

POSITIVE SIDE

Impact Of Internet On Children's Attitude And Behaviour

Internet has significantly altered our life style in several ways. It is providing opportunities to wander about the world and to escape out of the real world while sitting in the chair. By the constant repetition of certain themes and through powerful visuals of high technical quality it is even conditioning many of us in to thinking and behaving in particular ways.

Internet has its impact on Supply Chain management, and Customer Relationship management- where E-commerce is playing a big role by automating customer relationship management, like voice interactive systems where the complaints can be dealt with in no time. Banks are also changing their ways like introduction of home banking and electronic fund transfer, where funds are transferred without physically going to clearance houses. In the field of education- concepts are changing from computer based training to web based training, like e-gurukool, e-learning, on-line examinations etc., Then there is the virtual class room concept where the lecture is webcasted. Any doubts that arise can be clarified through the virtual classroom concept.

Channels are available on Internet on every thing and anything. Internet has channels on Jobs, Personal, Libraries, Travel, Art, computing, Lifestyle, Shopping, Music, People, Money, Games, Sports etc. It is amazing to know the amount of information that is available on the Internet, through which one can access the information in the best and most inexpensive ways. Anything in this world can be accessed through the Internet these days. Similarly E-mail has revolutionized the communication. Voice mail is where they record voice and the same is sent to the destination. Net-to-phone is where one can talk to anyone in the world at the cost of a local call.

New trends are prevailing on the contemporary business scene. Internet and networking techniques are redefining the business as a whole and plenty are on the anvil for those interested in using them for gaining superior advantage who are well-versed in technological and management aspects. E-Commerce is a forerunner in this regard.

NEGATIVE SIDE

There is no dispute about the positive role of the Internet. Similarly there also exists not merely a consensus but a growing concern about its harmful affects. However, positive affects do not stick so easily and negative affects do not leave us so readily. Therefore, it is useful and appropriate to focus on the harmful role of the Internet in distorting our Indian culture and in influencing particularly the school and college going children at their highly impressionable age.

Internets role in promoting vulgarity and in undermining our family values and traditions is particularly distressing. The abuse of this very powerful media leads us to question the absoluteness of certain liberal concepts like freedom and choice when it comes to viewing what one wants. When private interests come in to conflict with the larger issues of public morale and morality, there is a need for exercising freedom and choice with some restraint. If programme producers are unable to contain their commercial instincts, the public authorities and parents and elders must step in to collectively articulate their concerns and initiate actions to prevent its harmful affects.

SUGGESTIONS

o To lessen the effects, reduce the time spent viewing the television. Children should view only select programmes for a fixed number of hours. Parents should become friends with their children and spend more time with them.

o Cultivate habits including reading. Parents should kindle their children curiosity and encourage reading and read to them and narrate stories. Having pets and caring for them, wouldn't only engage children in an enjoyable way, but also inculcate kindness to animals.

o Encourage children to pursue outdoor activities and team games in natural settings.

o Parents should become good role models. Elders should take pains to teach children social skills and help them in communicating their problems fearlessly.

o Media viewing under parental guidance and proper regulation is the best way to prevent grave mishaps in children, arising from screen viewing.

CONCLUSION

The media now runs our society. It decides what people are interested in and how they behave. Because of the media children are less interested in reading and in education and more interested in killing brain cells while sitting on the couch watching trash. We as a parent need to turn our attention away from the TV and the computer and focus more on each other individuals, Reading books, going to parks, spending time with friends and family etc. Instead of giving children medication and sending them to more doctors and therapists, we should reduce the number of electronics that are running their everyday lives. People need contact with other people in order to lead a happy, healthy life. Basically it is the parents' responsibility to monitor what their children watch and how often they play video games and access the Internet. Next, the government should really regulate laws to reduce inappropriate TV, Internet or video game contents. There should be an access control device in any inappropriate TV or Internet content not only for children but also for adults.

Comic Books - Japanese Manga vs American Comics

What are the primary differences between Japanese Manga (Comics) and American Comics?

There is a big difference in art styles between Manga, which is more stylized (exaggerated) and American comics, which tend to be more "realistic". There are also quite a few serious differences between the two types of comics. Some of the differences, just to mention a few of them are the cost, creation, diverse audience and genres, presentation and even size.

Childrens Books

The creation of Manga as well as its presentation is quite different than American Comics. Manga is printed in black-and-white format while American comics are the majority of the time in full color. Also, when you look at a graphic novel or Manga you will notice a difference in the size. Manga is frequently smaller than traditional American comic books, usually digest-size and roughly half to one-third the size of American comics. But where the American comics are generally thin like a small magazine, running about 32 pages, Manga comic books are thick and can be hundreds of pages in length!

Comic Books - Japanese Manga vs American Comics

In page count, Manga is quite similar to graphic novels, which are often just collections of the ongoing American comics. But unlike American graphic novels, which are usually just a collection of monthly comics in a single unified story or story arc, Manga books are often apart of an even bigger story and a complete Manga storyline can run thousands of pages.

Another difference between traditional American comics is that mainstream American comics are often created in a sort of assembly-line fashion. They have a writer (story), a penciler (initial sketch), inker (uses a pen to ink over the sketch), letterer (adds dialog) and a colorist (colors the inked sketch). Most Manga books are done by a single creator, who combines all those chores (except coloring).

Also Manga story lines usually move at a much quicker pace. Due to the high page count, one reads a Manga book at an accelerated pace. Manga books almost always have fewer panels and less dialogue (rambling) per page than American comic books. The price for Manga is also more than the average comic book and a bit more than a standard paperback novel, the small size of Manga and black-and-white printing rather than full color keeps the cost down. The lack color is made up when you consider the story development that it'll have with the amount of pages it has.

In Japan, Manga is not viewed as just for kids unlike the American stereotype. There pretty much is a Manga for everyone. With that being stated there are three main genres in Japanese Manga: Shonen Manga (boy's comics), Shojo Manga (girl's comics) and Hentai (adult comics).

Shonen Manga is pretty much comics that are primarily action and/or adventure geared. If you'd like to view some examples of that genre, I'd recommend "Bleach" and/or "Full Metal Alchemist". Shojo Manga is for the opposite sex; they are often about relationships and/or love interests. Please note that even though a particular genre is geared towards a certain audience it's not limited to just that audience (unless otherwise stated). Finally Hentai Manga, I won't delve much into this since it is primarily for adults and NOT suitable for children (just to be safe in case a child is reading this). Anyways, Hentai Manga is sometimes sexually explicit and/or adult-themed. In other words, do not purchase this for your child.

Next time someone asks you what the difference is between Manga and [American] comics, you can surprise them with your knowledge.
